Hello all,
Welcome to a Victorian heritage train video. Today we’re off to the newly built Union Station. To celebrate its recent completion, Steamrail Victoria ran some steam shuttles, like when they ran the last steam trains to Mont Albert and Surrey Hills prior to their closure. The original plans were to replicate those events with the shuttles running between Burnley and Blackburn, however it was changed a week beforehand due to some operational restrictions. Instead, the shuttles ran to Flinders Street for the first run and then Ringwood for the other four. They used two K-class locomotives, configured top and tail with five wooden E-type carriages. K class 190 was on the east end and K183 was on the west.
There were four one-way trips also run to transfer the train from Newport, followed by lunch in Ringwood, half-way through the day.
In this video we capture the train at various locations throughout these shuttles. We captured three of the four transfer runs as well.

Steamrail Victoria is one of the mainline heritage operators in Victoria, offering day trips and weekend tours back to a bygone era, whether by heritage steam, diesel or electric. This trip was one of the more popular suburban shuttle tours, which has the train operate locally on Melbourne's metropolitan train network.
