This video is about traditional South Indian dish - Aappam, which is a fermented rice pancake, soft in the center and crispy on the edges, made with rice and coconut. It is prepared by using Appa kadai, it can be either cast iron small wok or non- stick kadai. There are so many variations in making this recipe using coconut, sugar, yeast, cooked rice, poha, bread and sago. It is known to be a very popular dish for morning breakfast, brunch or dinner. This is accompanied with vegetable stew, sweetened coconut milk, coconut based meat dishes or stews and spicy chutneys either preferred with onion or garlic.

Ingredients:

Idly rice - 1 cup
Raw rice - 2 cups
Fresh grated coconut - 1 cup
Fenugreek seeds - 1/4 tsp
Skinned urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
Salt - to taste
Sugar - 1 Tbsp
Coconut milk - 80 ml
Cooking soda - 1/4 tsp
Soda water ( optional ) - 25 ml
Oil - 3 ml ( greasing )
