Joshua Tree National Park, nestled in the southeastern region of California, USA, stands as a remarkable expanse of desert wilderness.  Joseph Orbeso and Rachel Nguyen ex-lovers, and now close friends, decided to take a mini vacation to a local iconic park, Joshua Tree. Rachel and Joseph checked in to an Airbnb in the high desert on Wednesday, July 26th, 2017, and were excited about their Joshua Tree excursion.  No one would ever see them again and were reported missing after they failed to check out of the lodging. Surveillance cameras positioned at the west entrance of Joshua Tree Orbeso’s vehicle entering the park at 6:45 a.m. on Thursday, July 27 and located the couple's vehicle in the vicinity of a trailhead on the day they were reported missing. A search and rescue operation was initiated.  For days and weeks that followed, hundreds of individuals combed through the challenging terrain of the park, as well as the surrounding communities. Despite the collective efforts and vast search and rescue resources deployed, Orbeso and Nguyen remained missing, with their whereabouts unknown.  In August, after an exhaustive four-week search for the missing couple yielded no results, a decision was made to reduce the search efforts to weekends only.   It would be 3 months later when a major breakthrough in the case of Orbeso and Nguyen would make the headlines.
