نينوى ، أقدم مدن الإمبراطورية الآشورية القديمة وأكثرها اكتظاظًا بالسكان ، وتقع على الضفة الشرقية لنهر دجلة. كانت نينوى تقع عند تقاطع طرق تجارية مهمة بين الشمال والجنوب وبين الشرق والغرب ، وقربها من أحد روافد نهر دجلة ، نهر الخوصر ، زاد من قيمة الأراضي الزراعية والرعوية الخصبة في المنطقة.
Nineveh, the oldest and most-populous city of the ancient Assyrian empire, situated on the east bank of the Tigris River. Nineveh was located at the intersection of important north-south and east-west trade routes, and its proximity to a tributary of the Tigris, the Khawṣar River, added to the value of the fertile agricultural and pastoral lands in the district.
