Back in November of 2019, I visited one of my favorite cities in the world, Barcelona, with my family. My wife and I lived there for a year before we had kids, but now we wanted our daughters to see this incredible city. Come along with us as we show you the top things to do with kids in Barcelona, Spain!

We started at Park Güell, which was designed by famed architect Antoni Gaudí. The park opened in 1926 and became part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1984. The park is full of mosaics, sculptures, and unique architecture. There’s a popular lizard-shaped mosaic and a pond where you can make a wish!

In the Gracia neighborhood, you’ll find lots of typical Spanish restaurants, including the one we chose, La Trini. They serve typical Catalunyan food. They have a set menu that costs 10.50€ that includes a three-course meal, water, and bread. We ordered lentils with chorizo, green beans with tomato and basil, and a rare vacio beef with a baked potato. We also enjoyed three desserts, including a fluffy and sweet cheese with honey!

The following morning, we headed to La Boqueria, a huge traditional market where you can shop and eat all your meals! My daughters tried some cookies, while I got a watermelon juice and two tapitas: one with red pepper stuffed with tuna and sardines on top, and another with salmon and sweet caramelized onions. The tapitas only cost me 3€!

From there, we headed to the port area to our boat tour on the Las Golondrinas boat.
They offer 40-minute and 90-minute tours, but we went with the shorter one since we were with the kids. The boat takes you on a loop of the harbor and out on the Mediterranean Sea for a few minutes. It’s a great outing for kids and is a nice way to see Barcelona from a different perspective!

From there, we headed to Pulperia Patatas Bravas in Barri Gòtic. I ordered buñuelos de bacalao (salt cod fritters), pulpo a la plancha (Galician grilled octopus), and small baby squid called chipirones. I loved the texture of the pulpo a la plancha and the salt, pepper, and oil on it. The buñuelos de bacalao were also really nice and freshly fried.

Next, we headed to L’Aquarium de Barcelona, which boasts Mediterranean and tropical aquariums, including an 80-meter underwater tunnel that features over 11,000 species of fish. In the tunnel, you’ll see sharks, groupers, stingrays, eel, and more! Upstairs is an exhibit about Amazon animals and a daily penguin feeding at 4:30. All in all, it’s a fantastic place for kids.

After crossing the Maremagnum, a wooden boardwalk that connects the marina and the port, we headed home but picked it back up the next morning at Zoo de Barcelona. There, you’ll find animals like zebras, wildebeest, spider monkeys, Komodo dragons, lions, tigers, white rhinos, sulcate tortoises, and much more! It’s a great place to spend 2-3 hours.

After the zoo, we walked to Can Majó Restaurant in the La Barceloneta neighborhood, a beautiful neighborhood along the coast. We ordered fideuà, a Catalan seafood noodle dish, and small, fried fish. The fideuà was exceptional! The shrimp, mussels, and calamari were super fresh. They don’t skimp on the seafood, either!

And that’s it for our 72 hours in Barcelona! As you can see, it’s a really kid-friendly city with lots of activities the whole family can enjoy!

Huge thanks to my friends at Barcelona Turisme for making our time in Barcelona such a fun and smooth adventure. This video wouldn’t have been possible without them!
