Learn the differences between static QR codes and dynamic QR codes.

In the past, QR codes were used to display a piece of text. Later on, more redirecting options were introduced, such as vCard, SMS, and most notably, website and Email. This meant that QR codes could work online. But the thing is that this type of QR code, which is now referred to as a static QR code, couldn’t have its content changed or updated. Technically speaking, static QR codes encode the information within the code itself. So, for example, if you have a QR code on your business cards with your contact information, and you happen to move out to a different place, well, you would have to recreate the QR code and reprint the business cards, which, is not ideal. That is why a new type of QR code was created.

Dynamic QR codes are the natural evolution of static QR codes. First, and most importantly, instead of encoding the information within the code itself like static QR codes, dynamic ones are linked to a URL, which then redirects to the actual content of the QR code. This means the content itself can be changed or updated. You can start by linking a QR code to your personal blog, for example, and later change it to your Instagram profile. Thus, you won’t have to reprint anything. Dynamic QR codes are in essence, recyclable. But that’s not all. If you want to know how many times your QR codes were scanned, or where they were scanned, or with what devices, dynamic QR codes are the way to go. The URL we’ve mentioned will track all these statistical data which you can easily access and review. Where? Well, dynamic QR codes can be created with a QR code generator. By registering to one, like QR Code KIT, you’ll be able to create and manage dynamic QR codes.

So, those are the main differences between static and dynamic QR codes. You may be wondering why the former is still relevant. Well, the short answer is because they are free. Also, if you only plan to use them to show a piece of text like an inventory, for example, or simply want to test QR codes, static ones will get you there. However, if you want to unlock the full power of this technology, dynamic QR codes are here to stay. Plus, they can be easily accessed by anyone. We all have our smartphones at the ready, the majority of them can scan QR codes right from the get-go, and the Internet is everywhere.
