Cango Wildlife Ranch is considered
Cango Wildlife Ranch is considered among the world's top tourist attractions and conservation education destinations on the continent. Situated in the heart of the Garden Route only 3km from the centre of Oudtshoorn, this multi-accredited facility not only takes visitors on a one hour fully-guided tour to view 90 species of mostly endangered animals but is open 365 days of the year.
The Ranch offers visitors the once-in-a-lifetime experience of interacting with our ambassador species. Aside from the amazing experience of crocodile cage diving (first in the world!), we also offer encounters with cheetahs, snakes, tegu’s, lorikeets, lemurs and servals. As one of South Africa’s oldest big cat contact centres, we strive to maintain the highest level of safety and professional ethics whilst instilling conservation through education. Our fully equipped photographic department will capture that special moment on camera providing each participating visitor with a complimentary photograph.
The Cango Wildlife Ranch is an accredited institution, this internationally recognised accreditation awarded by the Pan-African Association of Zoos & Aquaria (PAAZA) has only been awarded to 4 facilities in the whole of Africa, it is extremely prestigious and difficult to achieve and is reviewed every 5 years, having been awarded this accolade twice consecutively, the Ranch has been awarded its third successful accreditation in December 2016. This award also ensures that Cango complies with extremely stringent conditions regarding our animals and what happens to them as well as the quality of their facility and the safety of the visitors. Alongside this award is the Ranch’s membership of the World Association of Zoos and Aquaria (WAZA) and which is by invitation only. Representing the top 300 organisations worldwide, they are one of only 6 members in the whole of Africa to have been invited to join this prestigious organisation. The Cango Wildlife Ranch is also officially the first member of the Madagascar Fauna & Flora Group from Africa. MFG, which recently celebrated its 25th Anniversary, is a consortium of zoos, aquariums and botanical gardens from all over the world who pool their efforts to conserve endangered species and rainforest habitat in eastern Madagascar.
Cango Wildlife Ranch, home of the Cheetah Preservation Foundation, believes in conservation and knows that extinction is forever. The work done at the Ranch by our dedicated staff takes on a whole new meaning when you realize that the people involved in saving animals and educating the general public, will never see the result of their work in their lifetime. Nevertheless, we will keep on doing our best to ensure that extinction becomes just another word in the dictionary and not a reality.
