Well THIS certainly wasn't something
Well THIS certainly wasn't something we expected to watch or film but looks like one of the big automotive YouTube channels is getting in on an AMC V8 build project! After looking all over the the YouTubes for some good in depth video we launched our build series for the 1979 AMX and recently dove into rebuilding the heart of our little beast. So after watching, we're even more excited about the project and decided to do a breakdown / feedback video of what POWERNATION did with THEIR AMC 304 for their 1973 Javelin.
First off let us just state right up front that we are VERY happy to see a major channel give some love to the much maligned and rather ignored little AMC V8, kudos to you all! Not only did they give us a pretty well documented build up AND engine dyno runs, but we can really get an understanding of what went into it and what those COSTS are. Since we are currently building our own AMC 304 as well as an AMC 360 right now, this kind of real world data is incredible useful! Think of it as, these folks set a bench mark for us to aim for, and gave us an "Option A" for results.
Now, as we've said in our build series throughout this entire 79 AMC AMX build the BUDGET is tight, we are trying to make this thing as fun and functional for as little money as possible. Like most normal people would do. We aren't shooting for anything outrageous power levels wise as this care isn't destined for the drag strip, it's going to be a back roads carver and vintage road race car. With the racing heritage of the AMX badge, and specifically the 304 powered 1979 AMC Spirit AMX it just feels right to keep it running under the original motor.
In this video we not only recap and detail every piece featured in the POWERNATION build but also compare and contrast that to our current plans for OUR build. To say there are a lot of differences is a pretty huge understatement! In addition we do the math on EVERYTHING we can see that went into this build up of their, giving people an honest accounting of just how much it really costs to build!
This isn't anything we have done before, and honestly not even sure if it's something people are interested in or how it will be received. However we had a LOT of people post or link their video to us so we felt maybe it was something we should just weigh in on. For everyone who has watched and supported our classic car build projects, and specifically the AMC stuff, let us know what you think!
