The AMC 401 V8 was the powerful around 400 cubic-inch displacement V8 engine which AMC sorely needed since the mid-1960s. Its arrival for the 1971 model year may have been a little late but it still had a big impact on the automotive world during the 1970s. The 401 proved to be one of the powerhouse engines of the 1970s.
