America's Sweethearts finished second only
America's Sweethearts finished second only to Jurassic Park III in its opening weekend and is considered a box office success, despite the fact that it is overwhelmingly negative reviews today.
It was co-written by Billy Crystal (who also stars), and almost starred Robert Downey Jr. as well, but Downey's legal troubles at the time made him an unreliable bet. The film was alto going to feature Meg Ryan, but could not as she was going through a divorce a t the time.
