The first process in brewing beer is boiling out the malt. This removes the sugar from the malt, which is needed to produce alcohol.

What remains is the so-called beer spent grain, i.e. the boiled-out malt, whoever throws it away is your own fault, because you can bake great things out of it.
We use it for a quick and easy bread. You will certainly have many ingredients at home for this.

If you have not brewed a beer by the way, just ask your village brewery if they have beer grains left over and you can get some of them. By the way, you can also freeze it without problems.

What you need for this:

250 g of spent beer
500 g of flour 550 or 405
1 packet of dry yeast
250 ml of beer is simply your favorite beer
a bit of salt

How to do it step by step:

Step 1.

Put all ingredients in a bowl. Mix everything well, being careful not to knead the dough too long, otherwise it will become too sticky. Maybe you can add some flour or beer.

Tip: If you want to use Leiber wholemeal flour, you have to add about 20% more liquid right from the start.

Step 2.

Cover the dough in the bowl and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour. You can also use the oven for this, on the smallest setting and with the door open.

Step 3.

Preheat the oven to 200 ° C. Transfer the dough into a bread pan, of course grease it well beforehand. Then bake for about 45 minutes. If the bread is still short afterwards, you can easily determine this with a wooden stick, you can put it in the oven after 5 to 10 minutes. However, you should not forget that we used the boiled-out malt, which has a very high residual moisture. When the bread has cooled down, the core is gone.

Our beer grains bread is ready, it tastes nice of malt and slightly after beer, of course it goes perfectly with a good snack.
