The MTR Intercity Through Trains were Hong Kong's cross-border intercity train services to Guangzhou, Zhaoqing, Shanghai (sleeper train) and Beijing (sleeper train) in mainland China. These trains depart from Hung Hom and skip all stations in Hong Kong until the Shenzhen border. Since the opening of the High-Speed Rail in Hong Kong, it has slowly replaced the ITT. The ITT was suspended in February 2020 due to COVID-19 and has never reopened. The HSR has now replaced all ITT routes with the sleeper HSR to Shanghai and Beijing departs from Hong Kong. The ITT has finally reached its true end, with zero hopes of a last run. Let's hope that the KTT and its carriages can be kept for exhibition, maybe put them at Station Rail Voyage?
港鐵的城際直通車可以跨境前往中國內地的廣州、肇慶、上海（卧鋪列車）及北京（卧鋪列車），所有列車由紅磡站出發，通過所有東鐵綫車站前往邊境。自2018年高鐵香港段通車後，高鐵已經慢慢取代直通車的班次，而直通車在2020年2月疫情開始時停運後就再沒有再復辦過。到2024年6月，隨着前往上海及北京的高鐵卧鋪列車改為香港開出，高鐵已經取代所有前直通車的路線，直通車終於迎來真正的尾聲，任何復辦的希望也在此消滅。希望港鐵能夠保留KTT機頭和其雙層車廂，用作展覽，也許會在「站見」展出？
