The final step in the Chip & Seal Process processes is the fog sealing. Fog sealing is a light application of a diluted asphalt emulsion, which is heated up to a temperature of approximately 300° Fahrenheit and spread using a distributor truck. The same distributor trucks were used to apply heated liquid asphalt on the roadway surface, followed by a layer of 5/8" and smaller crushed rock chips using a chip spreading machine. To see this process, view my previous video: Chip Sealing Our Street - Clallam Cou....

It took the Clallam County Road Department over four months, mid-March through mid-August to complete the chip & seal process for resurfacing selected county roads. As luck would have it, the road directly in front of our house was one of them! Having a front-seat view, I documented this multi-stage, meticulously choreographed process up close, to include an invitation to climb aboard a brand-new road surface spray truck! (view my previous video: Chip Sealing Our Street - Clallam Cou...). Watching the train of vehicles advancing up and down the streets was both impressive and entertaining! What is not depicted in this short video was the inconvenience for us residents – the noise, dust, smells, delays, and cleanup. That said, the result is an awesome resurfaced street right in front of our house and throughout our community!
