A four day hike from Kea Flat on the Landsborough river to Horace Walker Hut via Douglas Pass. The Landsborough flows southwest, parallel to and just south of some of the southern alps of New Zealand's highest peaks. Travel thru this heavily glaciated area of the southern alps is rough but rewarding, providing spectacular views especially when the clouds aren't obscuring the tops. We were delayed from choppering in by two days due to 160mm of rain and then high winds. We had intended to use the Karangarua Saddle as our exit from the Landsborough but after checking out possible routes across the face decided Douglas Pass offered a better route out for us. A top trip thru some breath-taking New Zealand mountain terrain.
