What if you want to order prescription eyeglasses online but your optometrist didn't include your pupillary distance (PD) on your prescription? Our tutorial has you covered. https://payneglasses.com

▷ Why Is Pupillary Distance (PD) Important?
For us to accurately craft your lenses to your eyes, we need to know the distance between the center of the bridge of your nose and each pupil, or what's called your pupillary distance (PD). Your PD is unfortunately not something you can guess on, but has to be an accurate measurement. Without it, you run the risk of not being able to see out of your glasses. The catch? Not all prescriptions you take home from the optometrist include your PD. But that's all right—we got you covered.

To measure your PD with a friend, you will need 1) a friend and (optional) a cell phone. If you don't have a friend to help you measure your PD, watch our tutorial on how to measure your pupillary distance on your own in the related videos listed below.

▷ What Measurements Should I Expect For My PD?
We tend not to give an average pupillary distance because we don't want customers to guess their own PD. (Yes, this has happened!) But to give you a baseline of what to look out for, a binocular PD (or the measurement between both pupils) of 50mm or smaller is typical for a child. If you are an adult and get a PD measurement of 50mm or lower when measuring on your own, we recommend you check your ruler and measuring technique and try again!

▷ Can I Just Guess My PD Or Base It On The Width Of My Face?
Excellent question! The short answer is no, you should not guess your PD and your PD measurement is different from face width. PD is measuring your pupil distance, or the distance between the center of each pupil to the bridge of your nose. In contrast, the width of your face is the width of your face cheekbone to cheekbone. This means that someone with a wide-set face can have a small or average PD because their eyes—AKA their pupil distance—are closer together.

Finally, guessing your PD is similar to guessing your shoe size—much like the shoe will fit too wide or narrow, your prescription glasses just won't feel right to you and you'll have to get another pair.
