The Ancient City of Palmyra Destroyed by ISIS - Greetings from Syria.

Palmyra in Syria is an extremely important ancient city in terms of history and culture. Once considered one of the richest and most powerful cities in the Middle East, Palmyra was a developed and commercially important center under the influence of the Roman Empire.

Palmyra is a magical place surrounded by sandy desert landscapes. The city is famous for its architectural richness and there are monuments bearing the traces of Greco-Roman architecture as well as Roman buildings. One of the most striking structures of Palmyra is its ancient theatre. This magnificent theater features meticulously carved stonework and a stunning view. Likewise, the Temple of Bel in Palmyra is quite impressive and was dedicated to the goddess Bel in ancient times.

But, unfortunately, in 2015, due to the negative effects of the Syrian civil war, Palmyra was captured by ISIS (DAESH). In this process, many historical buildings were destroyed and damaged. In particular, the Temple of Bel and other ancient structures were severely damaged. These painful events marked a turning point for the preservation of historical heritage.

However, in recent years, with the efforts of the Syrian army and the international community, Palmyra and its surroundings have been taken under control and restoration work has begun. Efforts to preserve and revitalize historical relics continue to be supported by history and culture enthusiasts around the world.
