History of Japan 1: Prehistory - Periods Jomon, Yayoi and Kofun EPISODE 67 OF BUT THAT IS ANOTHER HISTORY (web documentary series) At some point 30,000 years ago the first humans came to Japan and began to live there. With the passage of time they gave rise to the Jomon culture, and were dedicated to hunting, fishing and gathering, and also to produce ceramics and stands called dogu. Probably people of the present Korea arrived in the south of Japan, concretely to Kyushu, and conformed the Yayoi culture. They brought with them the damp rice farming and metallurgy, and many of the features of Japanese culture. The whole territory was filled with clans called ujin, and the most powerful raised the first emperor of Japan: Jinmu. After the passage of many emperors, such as Queen Himiko, came the Kofun period, characterized by burials in tombs with a keyhole shape. Here the Yamato State, or better known as the Japanese State, is born, with capital in the present Nara, and its contact with Chinese and Koreans would become more and more intense until adopting Buddhism as the religion of the elite.
