Our today’s interviewee:
Irena Winiarska (born in 1927 in Dąbrowa Dolna) was a witness to a pacification of her village by the Germans on 8 May 1943. She talks about her older brother Franciszek, a forest worker, who tried to avoid being deported to the Third Reich for forced labor. In May 1943 partisans arranged a trap and killed several German soldiers. The attacked Germans called for support from the town of Kielce and started a bloody revenge. Irena Winiarska escaped to the forest along with her brother and sister, and observed the German crimes. Her brother Kazimierz witnessed Germans throwing small, living children into the fire. On the following day (9 May 1943), a man who went onto the field with his cow was killed by the Germans for no reason.
