Let's take a walking tour of Salem Witch Trials Memorial in Salem, Massachusetts! We'll walk through the entire memorials to each marker of the citizens who were accused of Witchcraft and put to death in Salem. in the 17th Century.

Salem's striking memorial to the 20 victims of the 1692 witch trials is located on Liberty Street, right off Charter Street. Three sides are enclosed by four-foot-high granite walls, and granite benches cantilevered inward from the wall represent each fatality. A name, the manner of execution, and the date of execution are etched on each bench. On the memorial's stone threshold, one may read the words of the accused, which were taken straight from the court records. Visitors will notice that some of the sentences, including "God knows I am innocent," are interrupted mid-sentence, symbolizing lives cut short and disregard for claims of innocence.

A small area of grass and locust trees, which are believed to be the sort of tree that may have been used for the hangings, can be found in the middle of the memorial. Alongside the benches is a dirt path that guests can use to stroll and meditate. The grave markers in the nearby Old Burying Point Cemetery, one of the oldest cemeteries in the country (and the oldest in Salem), are just over the wall. Witch trial judges John Hathorne and Bartholomew Gedney are among those buried there.

On April 22, 1986, the Mayor of the City of Salem founded the Salem Witch Trials Tercentenary Committee with the primary goal of erecting a monument to the trials' victims. 246 people entered a public design contest that was judged by five renowned specialists. In November 1991, acclaimed playwright Arthur Miller presented the winning entry, created by Maggie Smith and James Cutler of Bainbridge Island, Washington, to the press and general public.

Holocaust survivor and novelist Elie Wiesel dedicated the Salem Witch Trials Memorial in 1992, saying, "If I can't stop all of the hate in the world in all of the people, I can stop it in one spot within myself," and adding, "We still have our Salems." In the heart of Salem, this serene memorial offers a space for people to pay their respects, think about acceptance and understanding, and recall the heroic tales of individual bravery that were made public in 1692.

There are a few specific goals of Travel Towner:
1. To take fun POV (“Point-of-View”) videos of scenic drives, highways, and roadways so you can virtually travel anywhere you like; or look back at a time when you were younger.

2. Document a fun walking tour of a specific park, attraction, or point of interest so you can see what's it's like to really be there.

3. Showcase vintage footage from yesteryear to show today's viewers what is may have been like back in 19- something something! If you have any vintage footage of past attractions, parks, road trips or anything interesting from the USA? Contact me and let’s feature it here!

4. Just for Fun. These are videos that are funny or interesting in some way that I think everyone will enjoy!

Please give a "thumbs up" if you like taking a POV Road Trip or love POV driving.

Want to get in on the fun and make cool videos too? Here is everything I use to make it happen:

Another big part of the channel is to document a piece of Americana… at a certain point in time. Wouldn’t it be cool to go back to where you lived, 20 or 30 years ago, and take a ride through your hometown? As more roadway drives, walking tours, and vintage trips are added, it builds history so future viewers can go “back in time” and see what it was like, back then.

Roadtripping and traveling are uniquely American pastimes- and we should preserve it’s history- so future generations can appreciate the Freedom of the Road.

Please like the videos and subscribe to the channel. Leaving comments is a great way to tell ME what you’d like to see next.
