Shakuhachi (traditional Japanese bamboo flute) solo piece Yoshiya Reibo (吉野鈴慕), performed by Ralph Samuelson.

Yoshiya Reibo is one of the 36 classic honkyoku (original solo pieces) of the Kinko Ryū (Kinko School) of shakuhachi. The term reibo (literally, "yearning for the bell”) can be seen as a reference to the origins of shakuhachi practice in the sound Zen master Fuke’s bell and denotes a piece of particular spiritual depth. This piece likely is named after the Yoshino (Yoshiya) district of Kyoto, and certain phrases are said to recall the famed Gion Matsuri.

This recording, like that of Ōshū Sashi, can be found on my CD “Offerings” (Music of the World), available on YouTube, Spotify, and elsewhere.
