The Sierra Nevada del Cocuy National Park is located on the eastern Cordillera of the Andes. It covers three departments: Arauca, Boyacá and Casanare and has an area of 3,060 km2. The altitude of the park ranges from 600 to 5,330 meters. Today there are twenty snow-capped peaks (nevados) in the Sierra Nevada del Cocuy which are among the highest peaks in eastern Cordillera.
The Sierra Nevada del Cocuy is a favorite destination of mountaineers and climbing lovers. Today this protected area is controlled by the natives who live there, the Tinebos, and is currently closed to the public for preservation.
On this site, tourists can enjoy various activities: climb the snow-capped mountains, camp in the midst of nature, go for a walk around the lakes (Los Verdes, Grande de la Sierra, La Isla, La Plaza and El Avellanal), stop at the Güicán thermal baths or go hiking in different parts of the park. You can also visit the U'wa native reserve in the northeast of the park.
The fauna and flora of this site are extremely rich and varied. There are wet forests, paramos and snow-covered grounds. There are several animal species: tapirs, monkeys, felines and a large number of birds.
It is the ideal place to commune with nature, discover animal and plant species but especially to practice physical activities in an exceptional place. A breathtaking mountain landscape.
