Many people with insomnia struggle to sleep because as soon as they get into bed (or even as bedtime approaches) their mind begins to race with worrisome thoughts about sleep or the effect that a bad night of sleep will have on their health or the quality of their day.

If a racing mind is keeping you awake at night, I strongly encourage you to look into cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I) because CBT-I will give you a clear roadmap to follow that will improve your sleep for the long term.

Having a clear plan in place can lead to less worry and anxiety about sleep because you now have a strategy to follow. This can provide you with a huge sense of relief since you no longer have to experiment with different techniques in a bid to improve your sleep and you no longer need to research sleep or insomnia.

All that time you once spent thinking about sleep is no longer necessary — because CBT-I gives you a roadmap to follow. If you can pretend to be a robot for a few weeks while you implement CBT-I techniques, you will likely find a lot of relief from all the worries and thoughts that are keeping you awake at night and your sleep will improve.

The "set it and forget it" / robot mentality strategy was "borrowed" from Nick Wignall, a clinical psychologist. You can learn more about him here:
