In this 3rd video of the series, I Refoam, rebuild RE20 mic, reassemble and test after doing a deep internal fix.
In this video, the host rebuilds and tests an Electro-Voice RE20 microphone by replacing the rotted foam with denser and more absorptive materials, and replacing the almost lint-like, airy fiberglass with hot glue gun adhesive and two types of speaker grill foam. The host also demonstrates the process of placing and wrapping a copper wire around the eyelet of the transformer to form a little bit of an inductor. The newly repaired microphone maintains warm voice quality and adds a slight low end, while one of the other mics has a collapsed diaphragm and the other does not work at all. The possibility of fixing the other microphone is contemplated to end up with a pair of RE20s, despite it being the least favorite mic to work on
