Namaste, We are Shirish and Pooja
and Welcome to a "Ashadhi Ekadashi Special Upvasachi Misal" Episode of ‪@RedSoilStories‬
We had gone to the market, while returning back home Pooja told me that today is her fast day and She will be making Upvasachi Misal for the lunch. She asked me what I wanted for the lunch, I told her that I'll have the same Misal.
As Ashadhi Ekadashi is coming soon Pooja wanted to prepare Upvasachi Misal / Farali Misal in advance. Ashadhi Ekadashi is a festival celebrated in Maharashtra. The special day known as Ashadhi Ekadashi marks the beginning of Chaturmas ( Four months ). The Ashadhi Ekadashi is a very important festival for the Varkari community. They believe that Lord Vitthal, the presiding deity of Pandharpur, is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi or Shayani Ekadashi is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This day is important as Lord Vishnu is believed to attain Yoga Nidra, a state of mental relaxation. This period marks the commencement of Lord Vishnu going to deep sleep, which continues for four months.
On this day of Ashadhi Ekadashi the deity hold a fast and eat few things which is allowed. One of the food can be eaten on this day is Farali Misal or Upvasachi Misal.
It is prepared by mixing Sabudana Khichadi, Shendana Amti, Batata Bhaji, Farali chivda etc.
Pooja prepared all this and served Upvasachi Misal for the lunch.
We also enjoyed the lunch together.!
