This video shows two species of short-necked turtles that are found in the  freshwater creeks, rivers and billabongs of the Top End of the Northern Territory: the northern snapping turtle (Elseya dentata) which comes up to camera at the start of the video, and the northern yellow-faced turtle (Emydura tanybaraga).

Although normally very shy and rarely seen, these turtles are common in many waterways and play a vital role as natural scavengers in the aquatic ecosystem.

Filmed in the upper reaches of the Finniss River in the Northern Territory of Australia.
