He is ʿUmar son of ʿAbdullah son of Abu Rabīʿah al-Qurashī al-Makhzūmī of the Banu Makhzūm son of Yaqadhah son of Murrah, the Qurashites. He is the leader of the romantic poets, and master of the lovers. a renowned Islamic poet praised for his eloquence by Ibn Abbās and acknowledged for his quality and accuracy by other poets. He was the first to make women the sole focus of poetry, beginning and ending his poems with them.

In these charming verses, he mentions that he got married, and when his first wife found out, she displayed indifference and nonchalance in front of others. However, when she was alone with her friends, she expressed her anger and bitterness.

Through this piece, he seems to suggest that women are not good at hiding their anger, cannot conceal their distress, and cannot hold back their feelings. Instead, their emotions quickly show in their eyes and their hearts' contents become evident in their speech. If this is his intention, then he has indeed spoken truthfully.

هو عمر بن عبدالله بن أبي ربيعة القرشي المخزومي من بني مخزوم بن يقظة بن مرة القرشيين إمام المتغزلين وسيد العاشقين الشاعر الإسلامي المشهور شهد له ابن عباس رضي الله عنها بالفصاحة وسلّم له الشعراء بالجودة والإصابة وهو أول من جعل النساء غرضاً أوحد في الشعر بهنّ تبدأ القصيدة وإليهنّ تنتهي وهذه أبيات طريفة يذكر فيها أنه تزوج فبلغ ذلك زوجته الأولى فأبدت للناس الإعراض وتركت أمامهم المبالاة والاكتراث ثم خلت إلى صويحباتها تحادثهن فإذا فؤادها يغلي غيظا وكبدها يتقطع قهرا وكأنّما أراد بقطعته هذه أنّ النساء لا يحسن كظم الغيظ ولا يطقن كتم الجزع ولا يصبرن لحبس النّفس بل يسارع ما في قلوبهن إلى أعينهن ، ويظهر ما في أفئدتهن على ألسنتهنّ ولئن أراد هذا فقد صدق
