Catalina Island is our family's
Catalina Island is our family's favorite weekend trip because it is so easy, safe and fun for all of us, even a toddler. Here are my tips for traveling to Catalina safely during Coronavirus. During the pandemic, we've been limited with travel so an October weekend on Catalina was the ideal way to get away in a socially distant way.
-We took the Catalina Express ferry ride and sat outside on the top deck (open air & everyone in masks)
- We stayed at the Bellanca Hotel which has a large rooftop sundeck open only to guests (and was usually empty) so we could eat, relax or play with Aurora outside safely
- Masks are required on the streets & in stores
- We chose outdoor activities that weren't crowded: Golf carting, kayaking, miniature golf at Golf Gardens, beach & glass bottom boat tour
- When dining at restaurants, we ate outside and far away from others
Our favorites were: The Naughty Fox, NDMK, Toyon Grill & Descanso Beach Club for lunch
- We had takeout lunches and breakfasts on the roof
We were able to control our stay so that we weren't in any crowded areas and we could have fun, eat out and enjoy the island safely. I found that Catalina was not as crowded on a warm fall weekend too but if you want even less crowds, try weekday and go during winter. We did that as well in Feb 2020 and it was very quiet.
