Toyota Veloz is the premium
Toyota Veloz is the premium variant of Toyota Avanza. Veloz 2022 is the all-new 3rd generation that was launched at GIIAS 2021. Toyota Veloz has a more modern design, more spacious interior and more comfortable equipment.
First, the Avanza now rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) which also supports the Raize as the Daihatsu Rocky and Perodua Ativa. This transition from a ladder frame to monocoque construction is accompanied by MacPherson struts at the front, while a torsion beam is used for the rear instead of the previous live axle.
Starting with the exterior, the Veloz has a unique honeycomb-like front grille paired with a distinct set of LED headlights. The bumper adopts inverted L-shaped foglight bezels and a front air dam that gives it a sportier look. Other highlights include full-width LED taillights, 17-inch alloy wheels (16-inch in lower variants), automatic folding side mirrors with puddle lamps, and chrome-finished window belts.
Like the exterior, the cabin of the Veloz is different from a regular Avanza. It gets a two-tone black and white finish, fabric-leather upholstery, as well as LED ambient lighting. Infotainment comes in the form of a 9-inch touchscreen head unit with smartphone connectivity. In addition, all variants of the Veloz come with a rear entertainment system.
Other key features available in the 2022 Veloz include a wireless smartphone charging pad, leather-wrapped steering wheel, a 7-inch digital instrument panel, new automatic climate control, and an engine start/stop button. Last but not least, the Long Sofa Mode seen in the Avanza is also available in the Veloz.
The overhaul continues to the inside, as there is a more contemporary dashboard layout that is placed as a header by an infotainment system above the middle air vents. Digital controls for the manual air conditioning system are also making their way into the cabin, along with a new design of the steering wheel.
Elsewhere, the lever is further advanced on a raised platform that connects to the center stack, while the center console includes the handbrake, storage space and an armrest. As before, there are three rows of seats for a maximum of seven people, and with the increased dimensions also expect more interior space.
the Veloz only comes with the larger 1.5-liter 2NR-VE engine that produces 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm at 4,200 rpm that can be mated to either a five-speed manual or CVT (separate four-speed car), depending of the chosen variant (we will get to that later).
In the top-of-the-line variants, the Veloz comes with Toyota Safety Sense as standard. This gives the MPV intelligent safety features such as a pre-collision system, front departure alert, lane-departure assist, rear-cross traffic alert, pedal misapplication control, and blind-spot monitoring.
Sitting atop the DNGA platform is a new body that occupies a much larger footprint compared to the previous model, with the Avanza now measuring 4,395 mm long (+205 mm) and 1,730 mm wide (+70 mm). Depending on variant, the vehicle’s height is either 1,665 mm (-30 mm) or 1,700 mm (+5 mm), while the wheelbase has grown to 2,750 mm (+95 mm).
