New 2022 Toyota Veloz - Seven Seat Compact Family MPV Facelift Revealed

Here it is, the third generation Toyota Avanza, which today makes its launch in Indonesia along with its sporty Veloz version. The all-new Low MPV replaces the second-generation model that has been around for more than a decade, bringing significant changes inside and out.
First, the Avanza now rides on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) which also supports the Raize as the Daihatsu Rocky and Perodua Ativa. This transition from a ladder frame to monocoque construction is accompanied by MacPherson struts at the front, while a torsion beam is used for the rear instead of the previous live axle.
More importantly, this is the first Avanza to be front-wheel drive, as all previous generations were rear-wheel drive only. Engine options remain known, including a 1NR-VE 1.3-liter naturally aspirated DOHC four-cylinder unit with Dual VVT-i serving 98 PS at 6,000 rpm and 121 Nm of torque at 4,200 rpm, which is only combined with a five – speed manual transmission.
The other option is a 2NR-VE 1.5-liter engine that produces 106 PS at 6,000 rpm and 137 Nm at 4,200 rpm that can be mated to either a five-speed manual or CVT (separate four-speed car), depending of the chosen variant (we will get to that later).
As for the Veloz, it gets a number of unique touches to distinguish itself as the sportier (and fancier) option, with the most notable being its hexagon-shaped main grille with Y-pattern mesh. This is accompanied by a tweaked headlamp design and the clusters are attached to the A-pillars by a chrome strip running across the front.
The new grille shape also guarantees a new bumper with more vertical fog lamp sections that carry decorative chrome trim, while a skid plate sits below the lower intake. Other differences include a full-width rear light setup at the rear and another shear plate to mimic the front – the latter also shows the reflectors being pushed higher and connected by triangular surrounds.
The overhaul continues to the inside, as there is a more contemporary dashboard layout that is placed as a header by an infotainment system above the middle air vents. Digital controls for the manual air conditioning system are also making their way into the cabin, along with a new design of the steering wheel.
Elsewhere, the lever is further advanced on a raised platform that connects to the center stack, while the center console includes the handbrake, storage space and an armrest. As before, there are three rows of seats for a maximum of seven people, and with the increased dimensions also expect more interior space.
Sitting atop the DNGA platform is a new body that occupies a much larger footprint compared to the previous model, with the Avanza now measuring 4,395 mm long (+205 mm) and 1,730 mm wide (+70 mm). Depending on variant, the vehicle’s height is either 1,665 mm (-30 mm) or 1,700 mm (+5 mm), while the wheelbase has grown to 2,750 mm (+95 mm).
