A&Z #184 – Atlas vs Broodjeshoek’s Balense Reus Challenge!!
Hey everybody! I’m at Broodjeshoek in Balen, Belgium taking on their food challenge – The Balense Reus! During my European tour in 2013 this was one of two food challenges in which I failed. I could come up with reasons why I failed this food challenge, but at the end of the day I simply did not win. There are actually two separate food challenges I’m doing at the same time:

Food Challenge #1 – Balense Reus Record Challenge
The first challenge is to beat the record for eating one Balense Reus burgers the fastest. At the time of this video the current record was held by my friend Benni, with a time of 7:10.
Prizes:
- Free Meal (€25)
- Wall of Fame
Food Challenge #2 – Double Balense Reus Challenge
The second part of this food challenge is to eat two Balense Reus burgers in 40 minutes or less. The only person to defeat this challenge was competitive eater Joey Chestnut, with a time of 20:11.
Prizes:
- Free Meal (€50)
- Wall of Fame
- Progressive Jackpot (With every order of a Balense Reus Burger, 50 cents goes into the pot
Each Balense Reus Burger is about 4lbs and made up of the following:
– Six burger patties
– Cheese
– Fries
– Salad
– Your choice of sauce
