FC Goa defeated Mohammedan Sporting
FC Goa defeated Mohammedan Sporting Club to win their maiden Durand Cup title at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, a. k. a. Salt Lake Stadium. The runners-up gave a tough fight but could not succeed in the end. The final was a tough game, where both teams' defences were fabulous. Till full time, it was goalless until in the 105th minute, Spanish playmaker Edu Bedia scored a goal during a free kick, defeating the black panthers and snatching the cup. Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar distributed the trophies to the winning team. Eduardo Bedia Pelaez snatched both the Man of the Match and Golden Ball awards. Marcus Joseph from Mohammedan Sporting Club won the Golden Boot. The Gaurs goalkeeper, Naveen Kumar, who made fantastic saves, was awarded the Golden Glove award.
Asia’s oldest football tournament, the Durand Cup, is back again with a tough fight between the sixteen teams. This is the 130th edition of the tournament. The sixteen teams are divided into four groups of four teams each. The top two teams from each group will qualify for the quarterfinals. The final is on October 3, 2021.
