If your hose bibb is leaking, it should be replaced immediately: even small leaks can waste hundreds of gallons of water a year. Mike is here to guide you through the process!

First thing’s first: shut off the water supply to the house. Many times, the house shut-off valve is found on or near the frontmost outdoor faucet - if you can’t find it, you can still turn it off at the water meter. Turn on the old bibb to drain any water left in the line.

Secure the supply pipe with a pipe wrench, and use a crescent wrench to loosen the bibb. Once it's off, give the supply pipe threads a good cleaning and apply new PTFE tape clockwise. You’re now ready to put on the new hose bibb.

Start by hand-tightening. When things start feeling snug, take the pipe wrench and again secure the supply pipe while further tightening the bibb with a crescent wrench. Once the hose bibb is secure, you’re ready to turn the water back on - make sure the hose bibb is closed/off before doing so! If the shut-off valve is a quarter-turn, you’ll want to slowly and gradually turn it to the open position - going too fast can put valves and fixtures at risk from the rapid influx of water pressure into pipes. Check for any leaks, and let the air out of the water line by opening up the bibb - barring any leaks, you’re done!
