Ok so it has been quite a while since I gave you all an update on the Hilux build, just been really flat out with other projects like the BJ40 restoration and help Roothy to get Milo 2 back on the tracks after the rollover. Plus I lost a heap of footage when I got a bit over eager and wiped one of the SD cards.
Anyway, excuses aside, here is an update on where we are with the build. The engine is finished and running with the help of an EBay cheap and cheerful aluminum radiator, so we will se how that lasts.
The real big change is the rear end, I fabricated a really basic rear tray using the original frame as a base, then got a bit crazy and spent a small fortune on some Australian Spotted Gum hardwood for the base of the tray. This is probably the most costly part of the whole build so far, but after oiling it all up it looks the ducks nuts!
I decided to get the cranking battery out of the engine bay and located it on a custom mount underneath the tray on the passenger side. Then to finish off the tray we installed some awesome rear LED lights that really set the back off.
Up the front end, I did a deal with my mate Darian for an alloy rear bar, and whacked on some HID spotties that a mate gave me, not a big fan of HIDs but they will do for now.
In the cab, Darian also provided a 3/4 bench seat which is great as it means no engineering palte required, plus I can fit the kids in for a trip now and again. The MOMO steering wheel looks great, but is pretty useless as it doesn't provide the the turning circle that this truck needs so will be sorting that out next.
