In this video, Diana Bytyqi, DNP, FNP-C discusses stress and how stress can increase blood sugar levels. Whenever we control stress, we are able to better manage our diabetes and blood sugar levels. There are many reasons as to why stress increases blood sugar levels. There are several internal changes that occur, like increase in cortisol production which causes the liver to over produce too much release of sugar. As a result, we see an increase in blood sugar levels. Other reasons include inflammation which can lead to worsening blood sugar levels and diabetes. Things that can be done to better control diabetes and blood sugar levels include things like exercise, meditation, yoga and normal sleeping patterns. Sleep is essential to help reduce insulin resistance and better control diabetes.
