In December 2020 in the middle of lockdowns and the pandemic, I traveled from southeast Turkey to Kurdistan in northern Iraq where I spent one of those lockdown weekends except there life went on as usual.

I was pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and friendliness of the locals - the complete strangers I met wandering around. In Duhok I visited the Duhok dam where the gatekeeper and diver let me inside the gate and inside the lake area. He then invited me to special tea made in a unique fire oven.

I then met with two CouchSurfest who took me to a real Kurdish feast in a local restaurant where you get a whole table of appetizers and plates to try on the house - it was all incredibly generous and delicious.

The next day I took a taxi outside Duhok to a little town on a plateau called Amedi where two local English students became my guides and took me to their dorm to meet and practice English with the whole class.

The whole experience was so pleasant and everyone seemed so happy to see and meet me. I think I`ve met the world`s kindest nation!
