Answers what "Patent Pending" means when it comes to patents. Specifically, when you file a provisional patent or non-provisional patent application, you will be "patent pending" until the application goes expired or abandoned or issues as a patent. Provisional patent applications only last for one year and automatically expire at the end of the year, so only provide patent pending status for one year, which is when you need to file a non-provisional application. The non-provisional will give patent pending status until it issues as a patent or goes abandoned because the applicant gives up.
