Patent Claims: The Focus of Examination and Infringement

So if you want to know whether you infringe a patent or not, it’s important to know that the claims section at the end of a patent defines what the patent covers. Not the drawings. Not the description.

What are patent claims? What are the "claims" of a patent or patent application and what do the claims have to do with patentability and infringement. Patent claims are the most important part of patents and patent applications and defines what is protected and what is not - the description and drawings do not define this. Patent claims are a section at the end of a patent or patent application that are strangely worded single sentences - again the patent claims are not the description/specification or drawings.
