http://www.vancesova.com   Watch how to make Maková Bábovka which is in English probably most meaningfully expressed as Poppy Seed Gugelhupf. Bábovka has no exact translation into English. The best way to find out what it is is to watch this video. In Slovak the word is the same and in German they use Gugelhupf. In this day and age the countries where Bábovka or Gugelhupf is known and made are: Austria, Czechia (Czech Republic), South Germany, Switzerland and a small part of France. If you know of other places and countries where they like, make and eat it, please let me know in the comments. There are different opinions about the origins of bábovka / Gugelhupf. Be it as it may, for the last few hundreds of years at least, it has been considered in the Czech lands a Czech food. And wherever it is known, made and eaten it is considered rightly their own country's food as well. The main thing is that is is liked and eaten in those places and we all like to eat. That's what we are interested in the most.

There are all kinds of Bábovkas or Gugelhupfs and many different recipes on how to make them. Out of all the different recipes and kinds of this pastry that I've ever tried and tasted,  Maková Bábovka or, in English, Poppy Seed Gugelhupf tastes the best. I like it the best. I think you will like it too, unless you absolutely dislike poppy seed pastry.

Enjoy.
