Quitting your PhD is a difficult decision that you have to make, and I would be lying if I did not say we all did not think about quitting our PhD. The question is not whether should you quit your PhD, but what is going to minimize the amount of regret that you will have in the future.
The decision to quit a PhD is not as clear as you would think it would be. If I were you, I would think about minimizing the amount of regret that you will feel in the future, however you define what you feel.
There are things to consider when you are thinking of quitting your PhD for a job:
Think of your future self. Think about how you will feel in 20 years from now. Some of the most joyful things that you will feel is from the sense of accomplishment of completing a task.
Negotiate. See if you can negotiate your terms of both your PhD and your job. If your PhD expectations are too high, see if you can find ways to make it go by quicker. If your job is going to start right away, see if you can postpone the appointment.
Set a target date, and try to do a last minute sprint. If you do not meet that target date, then you know that you should exit your PhD.
See if you can leverage your PhD knowledge in multiple areas. Part of the reason why you are feeling confusion is that you feel that the PhD will be a waste if you quit. However, if you can see how you can leverage the knowledge in new areas, you might not feel as bad.
