This is one of several covers, arrangements and original pieces I've written for Mega Man: The Sequel Wars, a remake/remix of the last 3 NES Mega Man games for the Sega Genesis. You can download the latest version of the game (up to Mega Man 4) on Romhacking.net (https://www.romhacking.net/homebrew/183/) or Itch.io (https://woodfrog.itch.io/mega-man-the..., and be sure to follow the game's development on its Twitter account (Twitter: MMSequelWars) or YouTube page (@sequelwars5870.

My birthday this year (can you believe I've managed to outlive the rest of my species by 17 years?) happened to coincide with the initial release of Sequel Wars, and I couldn't imagine any better birthday present. Seeing the fruits of several years' worth of code, art and music all in a single package is nothing short of remarkable, especially knowing the many challenges that went into the final product—I can't thank Woodfrog and the rest of the team enough for the work they've put into making Sequel Wars possible, and I hope that this is only the beginning of a great trilogy of titles.

Mega Man has always stood out to me as one of the few NES action series willing to acknowledge that fighting hordes of giant robotic monsters would eventually take a toll on your mental health. Although the track does have its triumphant moments, Mega Man 4's ending theme is ultimately a somber one, mirroring the protagonist's own fatigue from being forced to stop the same mad scientist multiple times several times over—fatigue that only seems to end with the arrival of his robot family at the end of the scene. It's an emotional rollercoaster of a song (the section around 1:06 in the original track never fails to hit me), and I tried my best to heighten its impact with even greater contrast between sections, more expressive melodies, and a proper ending instead of a fade out. I paid special attention to the lead instruments this time—the saxophone patch was a serendipitous edit of a 'KK Slider' preset, and the blues guitar from the intro is made up of four different sound channels. Coindicentally, this song also takes up more space than anything else in the ROM.
