Castlemilk is a neighbourhood in southern Glasgow poorly served by rail and thus heavily dependent on its local bus services. National Busways West Scotland leaps at the opportunity, supplementing the existing 136 link to the Forge via Polmadie and Bridgeton with a new route 16 to Milton via Polmadie, Glasgow city centre and Springburn road. The route is a massive investment, running with a fleet of 24 new ALX500-bodied Volvo B10TL Super Olympians. The buses feature dual doors for shorter dwell times at stops and their 40' length gives them massive capacity to cope with rush hour surges. While the 16 is likely the busiest link between Castlemilk and Glasgow city centre, it certainly won't be the last.
