The story of the black
The story of the black boys from the picture book Der Struwwelpeter by Dr. Heinrich Hoffmann, published in 1845 and intended for children age 3 to 6.
Hoffmann wrote a couple of stories as a christmas gift for his son in 1844. Friends of him liked the stories so much that they persuaded him to publish them. The stories have since enjoyed great popularity, but also received harsh criticism especially in the second half of the 20th century as being too cruel, not child oriented, and promoting an autoritarian style of education.
This story, however, has lost nothing of its topicality as an early example of anti-racist educational literature, teaching children not to discriminate people just because of the colour of their skin.
