But before we can begin, we are going to need to have some things setup ahead of time. For example, you will need to have the bootloader unlocked before you can root the Pixel phone. If you haven't done this already, have a look through the videos here on my channel as I have done these bootloader unlock tutorials for the Pixel 6 series, Pixel 7 series, Pixel 8 series and many more. ADB & Fastboot tools are going ot be required on the desktop or laptop PC that you're working from. If you're not familiar with this, or haven't installed it yet, then be sure to check the video description below as I'll have a link to a dedicated video I have that shows the easiest way to install ADB & Fastboot tools. You are also going to need to have the Magisk app installed. Just be sure to download it directly from the GitHub project page. You will also need to have manually downloaded the same Android 15 Beta firmware that is currently installed on your device. Make sure you have downloaded the same firmware that matches what is currently installed on your smartphone or tablet. Here's the firmware that was downloaded. This needs to be extracted, so that we have access to this folder. And then we need to dive into this compressed file, so that we can extract either the boot.img file or the init_boot.img file. Since I have the Pixel 8, and the regular root tutorial requires that I patch the init_boot.img file, that is the file I'll be copying to the phone. But if you have an older Pixel device. . .then you may be required to patch the regular boot.img file (instead of the init_boot.img file). If that's the case, then you'll want to copy that file to the device instead. Now let's open up the Magisk app. Tap on the Install button up here in the top card area. And then we need to browse and select the init_boot.img file. . .or the regular boot.img file The Magisk application will go through the file, patch the required bits, and then give us an output file within our Downloads folder. This output file will be labeled something like magisk_patched And we'll need to copy that file back to our PC so that it can be flashed in Fastboot Mode. Now let's reboot our Google Pixel device into Fastboot Mode And again, if you're not familiar with how this is done, I'll have a dedicated guide linked in the video description below. Make sure the magisk_patched file is in the same folder as our ADB & Fastboot tools And then type out the following command fastboot flash init_boot magisk_patched and make sure that we get an OK message on both responses here. When we turn our attention back to the Google Pixel phone, we can then reboot out of Fastboot Mode and back into Android. As we're logged back in, look for that Magisk app and open it up. You may end up seeing that Magisk requires additional setup Which will be displayed via a pop-up. But you might not. We want to look in this top card here to see if the device was rooted properly. We can even install a free root checker app from the Play Store to double check and see that it was rooted properly. And that wraps up today's video about how to root the Google Pixel series after it has the Android 15 Beta installed on it. Step by Step Tutorial ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ 1. Intro [00:00] 2.
