I wanted to do a video like this because I understand that not everyone is fan of the pre-installed apps that Google puts on their Pixel devices. So this video will work if you have a more recent device like the Pixel 8 series, Pixel 7 series, or Pixel 6 series. But it will also work if you have an older one, as well. Now before I show you how to actually uninstall it, most people may be okay with simply disabling the Gmail application instead. This is done by bringing up the App Info page for the Gmail application. Sometimes this disable button will be grayed out, but it's almost always worth checking. #pixel8 #pixel7 #pixel6 #pixel8pro #pixel7pro #pixel6pro #pixel8a #pixel7a #pixel6a #googlepixel #android If it isn't, then we can transition to uninstalling the Gmail app with ADB on all Google Pixel smartphones and tablets. Now, if you haven't done so already, make sure you have ADB & Fastboot tools installed on your PC. If you don't have these tools installed yet, check the video description below and I'll be sure to include a link to a dedicated video I have previously done that will walk you through setting up ADB & Fastboot ++. With that done, you will also need to make sure USB Debugging Mode is enabled. And again, if you don't know how to enable Developer Mode so that you can toggle USB Debugging Mode, then I'll have those links in the video description as well. Now, we're going to connect our Google Pixel to the PC with a USB cable and then open up a command prompt, windows PowerShell, or a terminal window from within the same folder as our ADB & Fastboot tools. I like to make sure I have a proper connection from the PC, so I like to execute the command. . . adb devices before doing anything. This helps to confirm that I have already granted USB Debugging access from this PC since I can see the serial number of my phone right here. If this response is blank, then you either haven't granted this PC proper access. . .or you haven't even enabled USB Debugging Mode at all. So make sure this command gives you the proper response before proceeding with this guide. When you're ready, though, go ahead and type out the command. . . adb shell and then type the command. . . pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.google.android.gm This tells the package manager within Android to uninstall the application with the package name com.google.android.gm from user 0, which is us. And we're telling it to keep the user data with this -k parameter. That way, if we ever want to reinstall it in the future, we have all of our data in place. Now we can just press enter on the keyboard and if everything went smoothly, we shouldn't see a response here at all. And instead, the Gmail application should completely disappear from the Home Screen and App Drawer of your Google Pixel smartphone or tablet. I'll be sure to include details on how to reinstall this app in the video description below, if you ever decide to change your mind and want it back on your device. The Gmail application will stay off your Google Pixel smartphone or tablet, even through OTA updates, unless there's an update that actually changes the gmail application. And since that is quite rare, you are unlikely to see it reappear on your device unless you execute the install existing command. . .or factory reset the smartphone. If you had any problems along the way, or just have a question about this process, then please do not hesitate to leave a comment down below and I'll be sure to reply to it as quickly as I'm able to.
