BMW has finally given its fans a rival to the Porsche Cayenne Coupe Turbo GT, Lamborghini Urus, Audi RS Q8, and Aston Martin DBX: the first-ever BMW XM.
This plug-in hybrid high-performance SUV is only the second vehicle made by BMW's M performance division -- the first being the legendary BMW M1 sports car from decades ago.
Built on a platform based on the larger, three-row X7 SUV, this two-row XM packs quite a punch: the drivetrain is highlighted by a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 paired with an electric motor to produce a combined 644 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque.
This setup is paired with standard all-wheel-drive, an eight-speed automatic transmission, 30 miles of all-electric driving range, a 0-60 mph time of 3.4 seconds (according to Car & Driver), a standard electronically-controlled adaptive anti-roll suspension system, massive 23-inch alloy wheels, plus a host of other tech, performance, and luxury goodies.
Highlights include a Bowers & Wilkins audio system, iDrive 8 infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, carbon fiber interior trim,
All this comes at a price however -- budget $160,000 for the base XM and the ultra-powerful XM Label Red (with 738 total horsepower) starts at $186,000.
