History And Reality Of Heera Mandi | Walled City | Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar | Neo Digital

"Heera Mandi" originally had the name "Shahi Mohallah." Later, it came to be known by the names "Heera Mandi," "Bazaar-e-Hasan," and "Red Light Street." Nabeel Rashid, an anchor for the Lahore-based publication "News Alert," mentioned in a video report that the establishment of Heera Mandi dates back to the 15th century during the Mughal era. During this time, the Mughal emperors would send their princes to Heera Mandi to learn about culture, etiquette, and even dining manners in addition to enjoying music and entertainment.

In the 18th century, when Maharaja Ranjit Singh came to power, his son Heera Singh constructed a mansion in the area. Consequently, the locality came to be known as "Heera Mandi" in honor of Heera Singh's association with it.

According to some traditions, Heera Singh, the son of the Hindu Dogra Prime Minister Dhyan Singh during Sikh rule, owned a mansion in this area. After his father Dhyan Singh's death, Heera Singh became the Prime Minister and, in honor of his mansion and name, the area in Lahore city came to be known as "Heera Mandi."
