Morning Gongyo with lyrics and
Morning Gongyo with lyrics and Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (Daimoku). In Nichiren Buddhism the Buddhists perform the Gongyo that consists of reciting certain passages of the Lotus Sutra including chanting Daimoku(Namu Myoho Renge Kyo). The Gongyo’s format varies by denomination and sect. These variations are even sources of inter-school contention(deny the salvation of one another’s believers) over the significance of certain practices of their worship.
Nichiren Daishonin’s Buddhism definition of the Gongyo is to recite the Expedient Means(Hoben) the 2nd chapter and The Life Span of the Thus Come One(Juryo) the 16th chapter of the Lotus Sutra in front of a canvas written Japanese signs named the Gohonzon, the SGI or Sokka Gakkai give their members copies on regular paper in order to practice. The Gohonzon, the supporting practice of all Nichiren Buddhists and is performed together with the chant Nam(u) Myoho Renge Kyo, the Daimoku.
