Fermenting beer in kegs brings many advantages. For starters - they’re stainless steel and easy to sanitize. They fit in your keezer for temp control. They’re pressure rated so you can ferment under pressure, easily purged of oxygen, and you can perform closed transfers. And you can ferment and serve in the same vessel.

But the humble corny keg wasn’t designed for any of this. It’s a serving vessel. You run the risk of blocked dip tubes, and questionable spunding practices.

So I’m attempting to assemble the ultimate fermentation keg. I’m using the prototype Clawhammer keg and customizing it with a pretty cool temperature control addition. Then I’m going to add some wort and see how it does. Will my franken-keg live up to expectations?
