This video is a walk through of a General Motors EMD BL2 diesel locomotive. This unit was purchased new for the Bangor and Aroostook Railroad back in 1949 and used until the early 1980's. It was one of 59, and only one of a handful still in existence.
Unit 557 was later named "American Railfan" and used for various fan trip trains.
In 1989 it was retired to the Cole Land Transportation museum. 19 years later I give a tour of the unit. It is complete, sans traction motors in the trucks. A 1/2 hour video is available from the Cole Museum that goes into much greater detail of the locomotive.
Video Notes: Visitors can only view the outside of the locomotive when they visit the museum...and the blowers for the diesel are roots type, not centrifugal. I
