The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, chapter 5, narrated by Isaac Birchall
In this chapter, after eating steak for dinner, Holden and some other boys get into a snowball fight. He then decides to go see a film with his friend Mel Brossard and convinces Ackley to join them because he would otherwise spend the whole evening popping his pimples. It turns out that they have all seen the film, and they decide to just play pinball and then head back to Pencey. Holden then begins to work on Stradlater’s English composition, but he struggles o find a subject like a house or something. He instead recollects a baseball glove that his brother owned before he died of leukaemia. The glove was covered with poems, and thus fits the criteria of being descriptive as hell. He finishes the composition and the stares out the window and listens to Ackley snore.
